How to deal with Criticism

“Not getting affected by unnecessary criticism is one of the secrets of success.” – Darshan Singh

Understanding the difference between constructive and destructive criticism is crucial. Although I always suggest people not to pay attention towards critics, but they can really help you to improve in your life if you have the right sort of attitude. Taking constructive criticism in the right way is necessary. When someone points at your weakness then it becomes necessary to identify it and work on it. You can’t always ignore criticism. Instead, you must learn from it and use it to bring good things in your life and career.

There are people who will criticize you unnecessary and will not wish the best for you. They will try to manipulate you and make efforts to derail you from your path of success. But your job is to ignore them and overlook their destructive criticism as well. If you apply too many changes to your life because of condemnation, then you can lose your originality. You will become a product of other’s thoughts and you can’t have your own identity.

Criticism is like bricks. People throw these bricks at you and you must never toss them back. Your job is to collect those bricks and build a house of success for you. The bricks of criticism will teach you many things. These bricks will frustrate you; they will annoy you; they will test your patience. But you must distillate all these emotions and apply them in achieving success. Channelize your rejections, frustrations, disappointments and criticism to do hard work. This hard work will surely pay off one day.

Your sole job is to improve everyday in life and keep on chasing your goals without distractions. There will be people around you who will doubt your capabilities, who will demotivate you, who will not value your efforts, who will not believe in your goals. But that’s OK. There’s nothing to worry about. There are all sorts of people on this planet. But your duty is not to get distracted from their opinions. I have seen talented people waste their talents due to lack of temperament. They easily get distracted from their goals due to criticism they face. They are highly vulnerable to any criticism made about them. They change their style of doing things in order to impress a few people. In that pursuit, they stop being who they are.

So, the essence of the article is to never pay attention to what people say about you and your work. People have mouths and they will voice their opinions. You can’t stop anyone from presenting their views and thoughts. But not getting distracted from that is only in your hands. In the end, it is about you and only you to decide the kind of life you want to live. Do you want to live your life for yourself or for your critics? Do you want to work according to your creativity or how others want you to work?

Ask yourself these questions and I am sure that you will get an honest answer from your inner being.

Love and power to you

Darshan
