Being self-centered
‘Being
self-centered is not being selfish.’ – Darshan Singh
If you want to
gain success, you got to be self-centered. Being self-centered is generally
termed as selfish and in a negative frame. But its not the way how it should be
portrayed. The other side should also be explored and understood. Being self-centered
is not bad at all.
When a person is
chasing a goal, generally a bigger one, then he/she is naturally being
self-centered. He/she sacrifices a lot of things in pursuit to achieve his/her
goals. When you are not self-centered, you can’t walk on a straight line. You
have many distractions that can derail you from the path of your destiny.
‘Preoccupied with
oneself and one’s affairs’ is the dictionary definition of being self-centered.
I fail to understand that why people use it as a negative expression. If you
are occupied with yourself and are only concentrated in your affairs is part of
being disciplined and focused.
You can become
successful if you are engrossed only in your goal achieving and are not
sidetracked by the external forces. For this to happen, you’ve got be
self-centered. You can’t cheat yourself with the sacrifices you need to make to
become successful.
You need to let
go a lot of things in life. You can’t just always go to every party that your
friends throw. You can’t be attending every important celebration with your
family. Because when you are self-centered, you sacrifice some of this stuff
and not even regret it. Because you are always engaged in reaching a certain goal.
You can’t afford
to have distractions in your life when you are focused on achieving a goal. You
ought to be self-centered in your approach towards life, work and fun. I am not
telling you to ignore your friends and family, but you’ve got to let go certain
moments and events if you really want to reach your destination. People often
talk about the sacrifices that people make to become successful. Becoming self-centered
is one of those sacrifices.
Love and power to
you
Darshan
