Quarantine yourself occasionally!

RACGP - So you have been asked to self-isolate or quarantine. What ...

This works wonders for many people. Quarantining yourself from your family, friends and daily routine can be a great stress buster. In this ever-busy life, people don’t find time for themselves. They are busy in either working or spending time with their loved ones.

When you don’t have time for yourself, you tend to lose your originality and peace of mind. Every human being needs time for himself where he/she can contemplate about life and purpose. This time is essential for human development as well.

Isolating yourself will bring out the best in you. Most people are leading such life that they can’t afford to quarantine themselves. They need people around them, family to talk to, work day and night, partying with friends and so on. We have set our life on a template that is not the best. Seldom do we take out time for ourselves. A person can’t develop his/her skills if he/she doesn’t have time for themselves.

It takes huge courage to quarantine yourself from the rest of the world. But the benefits are massive as compared to the small sacrifice made. You just need to go away from everything you have and anyone you have in your life. Sacrifice a bit of earning and some time with your family and friends. Go on hiking alone or book a hotel in the hills. Stay for at least 10 days, recharge yourself, rejuvenate your mind by doing activities that you generally don’t do.

Wake up early in the morning, experience the sunrise, sit idle and think about nothing at all. Eat delicious food, admire nature and sleep more. This exercise once a year will change your perception towards life. This time with yourself will allow you to think more about the things that you usually don’t contemplate in your daily routine.

Secluding yourself will also make you realize the importance of other people in your life. There are so many things in life that you want to do but are not able to do because of your routine. Are you so cruel to yourself that you can’t even give yourself a 10-day break and sacrifice a small portion of your earning? Isn’t yourself important that your job or business? Aren’t you being too harsh on you for not allowing yourself the ‘me’ time?

Separating yourself from people and your daily chores will give you fuel for the rest of the year. You can use this fuel to maintain energy in the activities you do throughout the year. It clearly depends on the type of job you do and your nature. You may take a 10- or 15-day break on a stretch. Or you can take a couple of days of break every month or you may go for a week’s break every 6 months. It is all up to you. I go for 15-day break couple of times a year. That means a full month of sacrificing family life, friend circle and most importantly money. But I look at it differently, I see myself earning for 11 months and enjoying for a month only. This way you will not feel the pain of losing a bit of hard-earned money.

Money should not be the sole motive of your life. Money is just a part of this wonderful life that God has given us. Your duty is to live your life to the fullest and make the most of your existence. So, work hard everyday but quarantine yourself in order to maintain balance in your life.
