Knowing Yourself

‘Knowing yourself is knowing the world’ – Darshan Singh

This is something that most people don’t do. It is crucial to talk to yourself. Talking to yourself will unravel so many unsolved questions in your life. In our curriculum or at educational centers, we have been always told to take advice from others. But seldom you hear someone telling you to take your own advice.

I am the person of that category who takes his own advice before asking others. This does two things; it helps you to make better decisions and it allows you to know yourself better. Doing inner research about yourself is very important. You must know who you are. What do you do and what do you intend to do ahead? Until and unless you know yourself thoroughly, you can’t do well in life.

We often go to other people to take advice about our education, career and marriage. But think logically and guess who knows you better? You or the person from whom you are going to take the advice. Obviously, you know yourself better than the other person.

Solution to every tension and problem lies in knowing yourself. Now the question is how to know yourself? You can know yourself better by spending time with yourself. In a normal routine it might seem that you are with you but that rarely happens. You are with you when you connect yourself internally.

Everyday you must take out time for yourself and connect with your inner soul. You must talk to yourself. Discuss your problems with yourself. Discuss the day’s routine with yourself. Discuss future plans with yourself. Discuss everything with yourself before discussing it with others. You will see the magic of this activity. You will note that you won’t need people to give you advice. Talking to yourself will allow you to solve most of your issues by yourself.

I am not saying that others can’t give you good advice. But when you know yourself better than others, you become the best person to give advice to yourself.

Talking to yourself will make you an improved person. Sit in a peaceful place for 15-20 minutes every day. Make sure that in this time you don’t have anyone around. You don’t have any distractions. Your phone is switched off. Your internet is disconnected. Any thought is out of your mind. You are not worried about anything. You are not concerned about your loved ones. You are not thinking about the evening plans with your friends. You’ve got to try to keep your mind as empty as possible.

Then start questioning yourself. Discuss your issues with yourself. Talk to yourself about the things that you want to discuss with others. At first it might seem strange. But believe me you will start getting positive results after the first session itself. Do it everyday of your life if you want to be happy and successful.
